About Wark Accounting
OUR HISTORY
In the 1930’s Herbert Shoop had an accounting office in the Dime Savings Society Building, today known at the Riverview Building at the corner of Front and Greene Streets. His daughter Bettie married Dean Wark in1940 and joined Mr. Shoop in the accounting business for many years until Mr. Shoop’s retirement. In 1969, Dean’s son Robert had just completed 4 years in the Navy and was eager to be an accountant after graduating from Wittenburg University in accounting.
Dean and Bob operated Wark & Wark Co. They moved the business to its current location at 220 Putnam Street in 1976. Both Dean and Bob had bustling business until Dean’s retirement in 1990.
Bob continued under the name of Wark Accounting mentoring several young accountants that started their own practices locally. In 2012, Jennifer Karas Schenkel, a Marietta native and graduate of Marietta College in Public Accounting joined the firm. She purchased the firm from Bob in 2015 and they worked together until Bob’s passing in 2021.
